You need a USDOT PIN so that you can access the DOT’s system and make changes to your USDOT number. This can include filing MCS-150 / Biennial Updates, Voluntarily Dissolving your USDOT, requesting an Authority Rating Letter or Operating Letter, as well as disputing any negative ratings such as crashes, inspections or insurance lapsing.
The USDOT PIN replaces the MC and MX PINs and is provided when you register for a USDOT Number. However, you can request a PIN online by clicking here. Motor carriers have the option to receive their PIN by email or in a letter mailed through the post office, but brokers must currently receive their PIN by mail only.
