Who Must Register for IFTA?

IFTA registration is required for commercial vehicles with three or more axles or with a gross weight exceeding 26,000 pounds who are interstate. Commercial vehicles with a combined weight greater than 26,000 pounds also qualify for the IFTA. If you own a vehicle that meets these criteria but is used for personal pleasure (RVs, mobile homes), you do not need to participate in the IFTA.
