What Is the Difference Between PSP and MVR?

The Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) is used most often by employers prior to hiring a new driver. This FMCSA-managed program includes a 5-year accident history, 3 years of roadside inspection reports, violations, and all CDL numbers a driver has had for the previous 5 years. Employers can access these records at any time by enrolling in the PSP service.

The Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) pulls information from a state’s DMV and will only include driver information relevant to that state. The MVR contains state-specific CDL data, citations, and events that resulted in convictions. This is another useful report for employers looking to hire.
