What Is the ClearingHouse Program and Do I Need to Register?

The ClearingHouse Program is a system used to identify drivers with drug and alcohol violations that might make them ineligible to operate a commercial vehicle on public roads. This is an online database that all employers, governing bodies, and law enforcement would have access to. The aim is not only to prevent employers from hiring drivers who fail to disclose their drug and alcohol violations but to also keep the roads safer until said drivers complete necessary evaluations or treatments.

Employers are required to register with the ClearingHouse Program and annually check the database for drivers they employ. You’ll also be expected to report employee violations to the ClearingHouse and check the database for prospective employees prior to hiring.
