What Is an Authority Rating Letter and How Can I Request One?

An authority rating letter is a letter detailing your authority’s standing with the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and provides a rating based on safety fitness and overall compliance. You can receive a rating of satisfactory, conditional, or unsatisfactory, and things like accidents and safety violations will bring down your score.

This will be the same rating that is viewable on the company’s SAFER page, but newer companies or companies that have not been through a full compliance review may not have a rating. You can request a rating letter if your company's rating has not yet been updated on SAFER.
