If you receive a DOT inspection violation, you should take corrective action as soon as possible to avoid disruptions to your operation. Depending on the type of violation, you may need to repair your vehicle, take additional driver training courses, enroll in drug or alcohol treatment, or take a break from driving to maintain compliant hours of service (HOS). In any case, the DOT will generally outline a corrective action plan so you know what you need to do.
Violations will also affect your USDOT Motor Carrier Safety Rating. If you take corrective action and submit the paperwork required, you can request the violations to be removed so that your Safety Rating becomes Satisfactory.
