A process agent is the person, company or organization that receives services in particular states. This processing agent files the required BOC-3 for your company as required in order for your USDOT number to become and stay active.
BOC-3 filing is required by all interstate carriers. Please note, you are interstate if your vehicles OR you cargo cross state lines within any point. For example, if you pick up cargo at an airport or a dock you are moving cargo that has crossed state lines and therefore, your carrier would be labeled as interstate.
If you are a private carrier you will still be required to file a BOC-3 if you are engaged in interstate commerce.
BOC-3 filing is required every time you do a name change, address change, phone number change or ownership change, within 30 days of the change.
